Default $4.5k Repair surely not, help needed

I purchased a 2007 350z and the check engine light came on soon after I bought it, the dealer kindly read the codes and replaced the two sensors which were flagged however now the engine light has come again and the dealer advised me to have the local nissan garage look at it and pin point the problem

The main dealer quoted the following:

exh/ v tim cont. B-1 and B-2 upon inspection found reading out of range causing sensor reaction

replace exhaust timing sprocket B-1 and B-2 with H-covers $4547.72

The dealer I purchased the car from is more then happy to help me out but they asked if maybe I could find out exactly what this problem might be???

Based on what you've posted, the dealer should have no issue figuring out exactly what the issue is. The exhaust timing sprockets are the issue.

Is there a warantee that may cover it. How long have you had the car and how much mileage until brought in to the dealership?

Not enough info. They will do the work for you, but want you to figure out what's wrong? Something doesn't add up.

How is that made up?

Sounds like a cam sprocket to me...

Hopefully it's just the cam sensors not the whole sprocket... the sensor replacement is a DIY job. Def. get a 2nd opinion from a trusted VQ shop.

The dealership who i purchased the vehicle from are a privately owned used car dealership, I cant fault them as they are helping me all the way

I will post up which sensors they replaced tomorrow, although the car does not rev past about 3k if that may help anyone come up with an idea of whats wrong

The blinker fluid is low.

But in all seriousness did they give you the OBD code?

I just spoke to the stealership and the guy was telling me cam sprockets and the exhaust sprocket are causing the ignition timing to be off, which in turn is not allowing the car to rev past 3k rpms

Never heard of such rubbish in my life, how can the sprockets on the end of the cams go bad?

Perhaps one or more of the tensioners failed, or became loose, causing the chain to not be snug, in turn wearing out the sprockets. I just had my engine rebuilt and my sprockets showed signs of some wearing. My best guess on that one.

The sprockets may go bad but 4500 to repair? That's more than what it costs for another engine or rebuilding yours.

It would cost less for you to buy a low mileage engine and have them put it in.
