how do you test ecm terminals ?

how do you test ecm terminals ?
my main question is are they located right on the ecm and if so do i have to pull the ecm out to test the terminals or can i do it without taking my dash apart?
What are you trying to do?
If you need to splice and dice your wires go with one of these

If you are just trying to monitor various parameters on your car I'd get a Cipher instead
