Default MAF cleaning

I know there are a ton of MAF cleaning threads, and i've read them all, but I didn't see my question answered.

Question is, I'm having a hard time trying to find the torx security tool needed to get screws out, so (flame suit on) is it necessary to pull the MAF out in order to clean it?

Could you not just spray a little bit of cleaner up the intake tube since the sensor sits right at the end of it? Would the cleaner affect anything beyond the MAF sensor (throttle body, detonation, etc...)?

I would pull the MAF. I don't think mine needed a stupid Torx, though. What year is your car, etc?

Signatures don't appear in the mobile phone version of this site. I could switch to normal, but it's a PitA on a phone.

I got a set of the secure Torx from Oreilly auto parts store. It was under $10 for a set of bits.

You definitely have to pull it out to clean it properly.
