Question problems with oil pressure gauge?

has anybody's oil pressure gauge gone bad? i hope its bad or else my engine is f**ked...lol. no i really think its messed up, i turn on my car and it goes all the way up, i mean way past the high marker, it goes as far as the needle can go. i first noticed it would get stuck up there when i would rev the car high and if i would slap it with my hand the needle would go back down to normal, but now it is up there ALL the time when the engine is on and it only comes down when i turn it off. but it doesnt come down all the way like the battery volt gauge does, the needle on th eoil pressure stays higher up when the engine is off. anyone had issues with this, should i be concerned.

when it pegs out max that means the oil pressure sensor is usually bad. it's up next to the oil filter. Buy a new one, replace, drive car.

no big deal

IT'S SOMETHING YOU SHOULD ADDRESS RIGHT AWAY. How do you like driving a vehicle with no gauges? Can't monitor anything in that sense...

i guess i meant to ask if this would do any harm to my engine. i dont think u need every gauge to drive ur car. i checked my oil level and it all seemed good so i knew the gauge was bad. and i dont think i need an oil gauge to be able to drive the car. i know its best to fix it but i wanted to know if its something that can wait

Your sending unit has probably gone bad - mine did it a month or so back and I still haven't replaced it. My car burns virtually no oil and I really doubt the oil pump is going to coincidentally crap out at the same time so not all that concerned with it, although it is on my list of things to do. Mine is at zero when car is off and pegs/stays pegged when on.
FYI - it is a 'pressure" gauge, not a oil level gauge. Low oil level will lead to a lower reading but that is not really the function of the gauge.

it won't hurt your car. g35's don't have oil pressure gauge. A gauge is just a gauge. Won't hurt the car by not having it.

yeah im aware that it is only a pressure guage but since it was acting up i decided to check the level. thanks for the reply and i will also put it on my to do list, maybe not on a priority list but on my list none the less...lol

Running oil at 100 PSI is probably not a good idea.

Mine's been like that since I got it. It was NOT the sending unit. I've grown accustomed to smacking the gauge. I believe aftermarket stereo jackass wiring job is problem. Speedo has been sticking too.

what r u talking about, the whole point is that the gauge is stuck, and the pressure is most likely not running at 100 psi... i hope

im about to bust this ***** wide open! jay slash kay. it was dark as ***** a couple nights ago, bottomed out on some train tracks (san diego blows when you have a slammed z) and now, at idle, the oils pressure sits at 60psi. when i go above 3000 rpm, the needle goes way above 120 psi. i still gotta troubleshoot a bit but the sensor sounds like the culprit.

Alright, tired of smacking my oil pressure gauge. Been doing it for about 3 months now, almost a habit now lol. Well that and turning off the ac button when I start it. Where is this sensor at?

If someone would be so kind to tell me the part number, cause I can't seem to find it, thank you
