leaking fluid near the rear diff
So I was bleeding my brakes last night and when I jacked up the rear pumpkin I found this strange leak coming out of this cross member. You guys have any idea what this could be? the liquid appears to be dried up and some even splashed onto the bottom of the muffler as well as pipes.

It could be the differential breather, diff bearing, or an overfill of fluid
Here are a few threads about it:

Hands down thats a blown rear diff bushing..look at where its coming from....
its not the diff breather as that gets plumbed to a 90 degree plastic elbow that lets the fluid poor INSIDE the subframe to never be seen again, it wouldnt pour from where your showing.
read my suspension 101 thread on replacing the rear subframe bushing with a solid aluminum subframe bushing.
there are also other crappy urethane options out there that i dont readily agree with but its your car.
you cant buy a bushing from nissan, they only sell the entire rear subframe.
but the solid diff bushings and call it a day.. many threads on them, check it out.

i had the same thing happen to me right around that ring last year. Wasn't much of a leak and it was really dry when i noticed it. I just cleaned it and it seems to never leak again?

^^ whatever floats your boat, but if its leaking, its broken.
Your choice to repair it or not.. it is there for a reason.
Just wait until your shifts start banging the rear end around against the frame.

I did it myself under my car last winter. It's completely doable yourself, though I'd not like to do it again. From what I recall it required 4 jack stands, a jack of some sort, basic tools, a metal saw, a freezer, and a BFH.

From what I gathered it's not something you want to ignore for too long. It might be even costlier in the long run. After calling a few shops they quoted $600-$700 (takes 6-7 hrs) not including the $150 SPL bushings. They also recommended changing the front bushings as well since they're pulling the whole carrier out and might have to replace those eventually anyway. I was told it'll be noisier with the solid bushing (but there's no other alternative).

I know I'm suppose to change out the front bushings at the 'ears' since they're pulling the whole carrier out anyway. I didn't know Energy makes both the front and diffr bushing. I read somewhere that SPL makes the best diffr bushing while Whitline makes the bushing for the ears.
