Default Transmission Problem

I have 06 350Z base with 6sp manual transmission
It has about 60,000 miles on it. I have changed transmission oil at 30,000 miles.
Recently, I keep hearing the grinding noise at 5th gear. First, I thought I missed the gear at 5th by my mistake and i ignored the grinding noise however, I keep hearing them often and i realized that it's not my error. It happens when my car is on idle and I put the gear into 5th without pushing the clutch (not forcefully) then I hear a big grinding noise. I couldn't really put into any gear without pushing the clutch but the 5th gear. When I drive normally, sometimes I hear the grinding noise at 5th but not all the time. (it sounds exactly like when you missed the gear). It never happened before.

I'm puzzled. Why would you be trying to shift into 5th gear without using the clutch? I would think every gear would grind if you tried shifting into them from idle without using your clutch. What happens when you actually shift normally using the clutch?

I was hoping I had just misread whatever the OP was saying about not using the clutch while trying to shift. Then I wrote the OP off as a troll.

Now I can't imagine what advice I'd give to someone who tries to shift without using the clutch, and then complains about it making grinding noises when he does it. Maybe OP should get an old Honda, and learn how to drive.

I'd like to be there when he takes it to the dealer to complain about the grinding noise it makes when he tries to shift without using the clutch.

Before I bought my 350Z back in February I test drove a Mazda Miata and the salesman had me shift the car without using the clutch. We were out on a test drive and he started telling me how good the synchros were in the transmission. He asked me if I had ever shifted without using the clutch? I told him no, and then while he was driving he took me to a parking lot and after using the clutch to get moving in first gear he shifted to second and then to third without using the clutch. Maybe swatcsj is trying this same technique to test out how good his synchros are?

LOL @ not using the clutch because the syncros are so awesome. I suppose Nissan just puts in the clutch for first gear... goes to check manual.

Nope... didn't see it in there . Imagine if this thread were a baby:

Wow... Try using your clutch instead. Driving without clutch? Why didn't you just get an auto?
