Guess there are exceptions but the test I saw was enough to make me not use Royal Purple.

I always find it amusing how folks claim that their conditions are harsh in 100 degree weather when the oil will hit 180-200 deg F as normal operating temperature anyway. It does not matter if it's 50 degrees outside or 100, the oil will reach it's operating temp anyway.

Where synthetics shine is in low oil temperature performance such as in start up. Most don't realize this, but more wear occurs in the first three minutes of starting a cold car than in two hours of "high" temp operation.
Yeah, I hate the idea of cold start-ups especially if my Z hasn't been running for over a week (or any of my cars).

None-the-less, I still would prefer synthetic for it's other benefits even if I don't reach the ends of it's performance levels.

I've been using Mobil 1 5W-30 since car was bought, now has more than 64k miles. No problems found.

Nissan recommends 5W-30 so I used that in the Mobil 1 variation for a while. I've since switched to Mobil 1 0W-30 and I couldn't be happier. Most engine damage occurs during start up and shut down. Having oil with lower viscosity when your engine is cold will facilitate better lubrication.
