Default Calling those that have torn down the vq. Need help

ok i am stuck. I have been following these series of threads https://my350z.com/forum/engine-driv...ing-chain.html

well i am trying to get the cam bolts out and they are a *****. the manual saiys they are torqued to 73-79 ft-lb but no way. Here are the bolts circled

My cresent wrech keeps flying off and im affraid im going to mess up the cams. Ive tried rolling the engine over and using a long breaker bar to hold the cresent wrech and use the ground as leverage while i yank on the bolt with my breaker bar but it popped the wrech off again. I am out of ideas to get it off. Anyone have issues with these? Also, can i just skip taking it off? I just need to get the heads off to have this engine worked on.

thanks

Id believe it. After a bunch of heatcycles and maybe loctite **** siezes up. Have you tryed an impact gun? The quick impact should break the nut.

I usually just impact those off no problem. I would stop what your attempting because it looks like you are starting to roll the bolt flat.

Better tools needed IMO. A good wrench will get it, but the impact will work best and easiest.

i agree i need a better impact gun. a good wrench would not make a difference. my kobalt wrench was popping off, but my craftsman actually rounded off one of the pieces of the camshaft.... is that bad?

at this point, with as much force as i used, i cant see an impact gun getting it either. but i can not think of another way

Why are you using a crescent wrench for something that's so tight? That is your entire problem. An impact socket with six points of contact will remove that easily while your two points of contact will over stress the bolt head and destroy it.
Idk if these bolts use Loctite, but if they do, you'll need some heat to get it to unglue as well.

If you get that shrub out of the block, it will definitely run better!

no, the crescent wrench is used to hold the cam from turning.
