Default 03 350z Engine shut off while driving.

I was coming back home from school and all of sudden my car shuts off and I lost power steering. I was fortunate it happend inside my apartment but when I tried restarting the car to park it would crank but not run.

I checked all the fluids and it checked out good. I waited about 5-8 minutes then tried starting the car again, it worked with exception of check engine light on.

What could possibly be wrong with my car? Any help would be appreciated before I make my trip to the stealership.

2003 nissan 350z touring A/T. About 110,000 miles. Completely Stock.

Engine grounds. -- there are two on the front timing cover join to one grounding point on the chassis (the cable is a Y cable basically). These are either loose or corroded -- have them cleaned and surfaces sanded down, then reattach firmly.

Thanks guys for the reply. I had job interview today so I was driving again hoping it doesn't happen again but it did. I drove about 7minutes then car stalled again in middle of street. I waited about 5minutes with emergency light on hoping nobody honks at me or hit me.

Once I got my car started I was very fortunate because I was maybe like .3mi away from Buena Park Nissan dealership. I took it in and explained what happend.

About two hours ago I got a call from them and said it was my crankshaft sensor that is bad and needs to be replaced. I go school and I need my car so even with stealership's high price I took their offer.

Total cost $639+tax including timing belt.....
Picking up my car tomorrow. And yes I still went to my job interview after my friend picked me up.

****, you got raped. sensor is $50 and takes about 5 mins to replace. Wish I saw this earlier and could have saved you hundreds.

Also we have a timing chain and if it is not broke, it does not need to be replaced.

You got TOOK. As mentioned, no timing belt. You might want to verify what they did. With diag, that job should not pay more than 2.0 hours which is $220 on the high end of labor rates. With a rough cost of $50 and tax, that job should have been around $300 and that's a high estimate.

You really got took.... There was actually a recall done back in 2004 for the 2003 350z crank position sensor, camshaft position sensors and it was definitely not the timing belt. What they may have fixed were all three of those sensors and the variable timing control sensor. You can go ahead and look it up on www.NHTSA.Gov<http:// www.NHTSA.Gov and see if you VIN number falls within. I too also have a 03 350z touring edition and I took it to the dealer and printed out some pages and they replaced the parts FREE.

I have the same issue. It just happened for the first time on my way to work today. Engine shut off on the freeway at 90mph in the rain. A quick turn of the key and things were back on. If this were to happen under braking or in a turn though, I would be in trouble. I checked the nhtsa website but could not locate any recall issues on the cam or crank sensors. Nice guy, can you pm me the info you printed out? I was planning on purchasing from partsgeek and doing it myself, but if it's covered id like to have the stealership do it.

Sounds like you've got more dollars than sense.
Good luck with the job though.
