Default Trying to Diagnose. Clutch Master Cylinder?

I have an 03 and have never had a single problem with my clutch until today. I simply pushed the clutch in hard and it stuck to the floor and now its useless. I'm assuming that it is either the master cylinder or slave cylinder or maybe both? But is there any way of telling? Reason I'm asking is because if I am capable of diagnosing the problem correctly and have the ability to fix it, I'd be glad to avoid going to a mechanic. I'm all for DIY but don't have too much experience but I can talk to a mechanic I know if I have any questions.

I did as much searching as my tired self could handle and couldn't get a great idea of my problem and fix

Any input? Thanks

Get your hands on the 2003 Nissan factory service manual. You can probably find it on the ********* wiki page. Inside the fsm there is a whole chapter dedicated to clutch diagnosis and repair.

Good assumption. If you play the odds 4 out of 5 times replacing master cylinder or slave cylinder will fix the problem. 1 out of 10 DIY mechanics who attempt this fix end up with a mess worse than what they started.

Are you a gambler? Roll the dice.

- First check and see if there is any hydraulic fluid leaking at the slave cylinder, master cylinder, and the lines in between.
- When slave cylinders go bad it’s usually because they are leaking.
- If nothing is leaking it’s probably the master I’ve replaced 2 so far.
- But in the end it is just a crap shoot.

Found out that I snapped my clutch pivot ball (2003).

Here is exactly what has happened to me, including over extending the slave cylinder.

The estimate is $850. Hopefully I can find the means of getting this done myself.

That sucks man. I've dropped the tranny in my garage with the car on jack stands with help from a buddy. It’s a whole days worth of work but it’s a lot better than an $850 bill. I’d suggest you replace the pilot bearing and throw-out bearing while you’re down there. Also they make Chromoly clutch pivot ***** so you don’t have this problem again.

Well since I'm at 85k miles, I decided to replace the clutch since it was showing some signs of wear. Just bought the ACT HD Clutch and Streetlight Flywheel package, the chromaly pivot joint and will get the CSC from the dealership. I'm going to drive the car back to my hometown where a friend that works as a mechanic can install everything so I can save big on labor. Although the expense has surprised me and sucks, I feel better because I turned the repair into a mod
