Default Symptoms of a jumped timing chain?

I have an '04 Z that has been acting really weird lately. It started with a strange winding noise that was definitely out of the ordinary.. It got louder as I accept later and quieter as I slowed down. Then it cut off and now won't start up. When I try to start it it makes a really weird noise... It's in the shop now I just wanted to know some symptoms, how often this happens, what kind of repair costs I would be looking at, etc...

Thanks in advance

well if it skipped timing the car wont start. you would get a check engine light about the cam position or crank position. I skipped timing when my OEM pulley cracked in half. on the VQ you have a hydraulic tensioner , if that failed and your chain was loos then it would skip timing
