Default cooling system problem

Alright I have a strange one for you guys. I noticed my coolant level in the resovior is low when the engine is cold. Knowing that its a closed system it must be going somewhere. Well after further inspection i have found no external leak that i can see. The weird thing about this is that im not blowing white smoke nor does the car run bad. any suggestions, its an 07 with 30K on it and I would be damned if it were a headgasket or anything like that

True. It must be going somewhere.

Add some coolant
Check level in 500 miles
Can you park the car on some brown wrapping paper? Very inexpensive.

Well the car has been garaged since late September, and since then i have not noticed any leaks present on the ground.

I will, but that does not help the situation of where it is going. Although the car has been stored atm, coolant just does not evaporate...

also my passenger floor is not wet which eliminates the thought of the heater core, anyone have a similar problem? The expansion tank is not completely dry but it is below the minimum mark when the engine is cold, so i dont know if that is just normal for a car to lose a little bit of coolant over 4 years or not...

Top off the coolant expansion tank/reservoir to the coolant cold or minimum mark when the engine is cold. When the engine warms up, the coolant will expand (thus the name coolant expansion tank) and the level will raise. When the engine cools back down, then the level will fall back to the cold or minimum mark again. Just keep an eye on the level of the coolant in the expansion tank when the car is completely cold. If you are still losing the coolant, you may have a slow leak somewhere in the system. I wouldn't jump to the worse case scenario unless you start seeing other symptoms. Just my 2 cents worth.

does your heater work?

mine was pushing the antifreeze out of the expansion tank because there was air trapped in teh lines... thus i had to re-fill it...
