Fail bolt?
I was looking at the sticky threads in this forum and noticed one about the 'fail bolt' on the front wheel brake disk. The post says it is there to keep people from putting rear staggered wheels on the front.
That may be, but this bolt, which the G35 service manual calls "the special bolt" has a much more ingenious purpose.
Removing brake rotors can sometimes be very difficult. Hammers are often required. With this little bolt you just remove it, then remove the metal collar and then drive it back in. It bears on the wheel hub and pops the rotor right off.
So if you are inclined at all towards DIY brake work, do not discard this little bolt. It can save you a ton of time.
