also when it revs up to a high rpm it will vibrate like hell...thats normal too.
Is that a common occurance across all cars? I test drove a 350z today and although I love the car, I found the vibrating shifter unsettling. I've driven VWs and Hondas before and haven't encountered a vibrating shifter before.

Mr. gonzo

The cars you drove were front wheel drive, and the shifter was remote from the transmission. On rear wheel drive cars with the transmission located directly behind the engine, the linkage is attached directly to the shifter. Due to this you will notice more vibration. You will also notice more positive shifts.

Thanks! I (obviously) don't have any experience with RWD cars.

What do you mean by positive shifts? My current daily driver is a GTI and I found the shifting to be slightly more hefty on my GTI (the shifter stalk is cut and there's also a SS installed). Do you mean that in general shifts are shorter and more pronounced in a RWD vehicle? Sorry for being a noob!

Nissan engineers purposely made the shifter that way.

The vibration from the shifter is excessive at rpms above 5500. Nissan didn't make it that that way - they were to cheap to engineer it out. Some cars are worse than others but, from everything I've learned, it's not a common problem.
At some point an improved isolation kit should be forthcoming, I hope!
