Italian Joe, anytime the clutch is engaged (even when the trans is in neutral) every gear is turning. This is because every transmission nowadays is of the constant-mesh variety. The input shaft is linked to all the gears on the lay shaft. Each gear on the lay-shaft is in constant mesh with its corresponding gear on the main shaft (which spin freely on this shaft). Moving the shifter lever locks a main-shaft-gear to the splines on the main shaft sending power to the wheels.

When Pbn85 is idling his engine in the manner he describes, the oil is circulating in his transmission.

I have the ST800 in mine and it is physically impossible to leave it in gear or shut it off without the parking brake up it is a great system. I'm sure there are other remote starter similar to this.

I always wait till the RPM's get almost normal which depending on the temp is like 30seconds or a little more.

Everybody knows you should let any vehicle warm up before taking off. I dont think you have to be mechanically inclined or a rocket scientist to figure that out. At least let that needle start moving first and let rpms drop.

doesn't the coolant also flow to the transmission?

No, it does not. The automatic transmission circulates fluid to the radiator for cooling but there is no coolant connection with the manual transmission. You can get a copy of the service manual here which will answer a lot of your questions.

Easy fix man...hop in, start it up, get settled place phone/wallet/other crap where you need to, pick some tunes to drive to and fire those up...by the time all that's handled you'll have let it warm up enough from a cold start...usually about 90-180sec. for me

That isn't necessarily true. But certain vehicles require it. You can pretty much take off within less than a minute most of the time.

I usually let my car idle for a few minutes at least.
