Default Speed Sensor

My speedometer stopped working about 2 days ago. I believe its the VSS. I brought it to advanced auto parts and had them put the ODB reader on it and it said it was the vehicle speed sensor. I was wondering if it will affect the car while im driving it cause im planning on leaving the state for the weekend to visit family if the sensor being bad will make the car run weird. Also if anyone can tell me where the sensor is located on the transmission so i can fix it.

The relationship between speedometer and VDC/TCS/ABS control unit looks complicated. I say "looks" because you would have to be an electronics wizard to figure it out. Exactly how an inoperative speedometer effects the control unit I do not know. Proceed with caution.
