Default Battery terminal not tightening properly..?

When I tighten my battery terminal clamp, it will turn fine and feel like its getting tight but then I can just lift it off the terminal with my hand. Has anyone had this problem??

Might be the terminal, or it could be the battery post. I'd get the shim.

Had this problem last year when I installed a new connector. I decreased the diameter of the connector by squeezing it with pliers in a couple different spots and it has worked great ever since. Be careful though because it's a soft lead material that could crack if overdone.

Put a screw in the middle of it. Lol. Jk.
shim or replace the connector.

Battery terminals are made of the metal lead. Lead is incredibly malleable. Once you compress the clamp too much, it will no longer fit the post securely.

If I had to guess, the torque values for tightening a battery clamp have to be expressed in low in/lbs. After you exceed that, she's been ripped a new one, loose, and feels like throwing a hotdog down a hallway.

Replace the terminals. Really temporary fix to drive to the parts store would be to wrap the battery posts with aluminum foil. Longer term fix would be to wrap some narrow gauge solid core solder around the post or purchase aforementioned shims and stop being such a brute when you tighten the bolts!
