Default different P0430 question

I have been searching for a few days now and can not find what I am looking for, so please forgive me if I missed it somehow. I have a 2008 Z and I got the P0430 and P0420. I have taken it to the dealership that I purchased the car used from (not a nissan dealer) and they have confirmed that it is a loose baffle in the cat. Unfortunately, I accidentally cleared the codes. The car has less than 40000 miles on it so I just need to take it to a nissan dealer and they will replace at no cost, but the issue is, they will not do anything until the codes return. So, on to my question, does anyone know how long/ how many miles it takes for the code to return, or is there anyway to intentionally trigger the codes? I just want to get it fixed before it causes other problems. I should add, I just bought the car 2-23-12 and the light came on that evening.

Thanks

You need to drive about 50 miles. do some stop and go traffic and also some highway driving, this will put it through its "drive cycle" and trigger the codes.

It was about 40 miles highway to the dealership this morning, and I did about 40 miles of city (stop and go) yesterday, and it still has not returned. It is really annoying because I know it should come on, but it isn't.

DOes the car have a transferable extended warranty on it, without it I seriously doubt your local stealership will do the work under the original warranty.

Keep us posted

^^^^^This. Probably would not affect performance in any negative way anyway.

The purpose of the "drive cycle" is to clear the codes and put the system back into "ready" state. Any amount of driving can trigger a code.

BTW, the drive cycle is explained here: https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance...ive-cycle.html

Loose baffle - probably not. Cracked element - probably. I had both cats replaced under warranty for that problem.

The emissions warranty is 8 years, 80K miles. Definitely take it to a dealer.

I am taking it to the dealer on thursday, but the light has yet to come back on. I can hear the rattle in the cat when driving and when my wife revs the car when its parked. The dealer I bought it from said they could defiantly hear something loose in the cat when they knocked it around a bit.

That's the definite sign. Don't let them tell you it's not the cat or it's not a problem. The first time I had it, I brought the car in and they couldn't find the problem. Of course, it sat all day and cooled off so the rattling stops. So I drove it a few miles and took it back. the service manager and I got under the car with a long handled screwdriver. I put the tip on the cat and the handle up against his ear so he could easily hear it. (homemade stephoscope) The second time it happened on the other cat, they took my word for it when I told them exactly what was wrong.

Took it to the Nissan dealership today, and it turns out that the dealer I bought it from lied entirely about everything, and sold me an illegal car with no catalytic converters on it at all. I am no longer the owner of a Z, she is going back to the worthless sacks that sold it to me. I even specifically asked if the car had any modifications, and they told me it was a stock vehicle.
