If it still takes two clicks to open the trunk, you should adjust the latch mechanism in the trunk (not on the hatch itself). Take a couple of the plastic pieces off and you will see the mechanism. There are a couple of bolts to loosen up and you can slide it down. Dont side it all the down because you won't be able to shut the trunk. Worked for me.
I also have the pennies in the shocks as well.

Drive safe.

I was just out goofing around with the hatch bumpers... I'm still just really surprised that nobody has made stronger aftermarket bumper springs that handle this problem. The new hatch struts that I installed are working like a champ and doing their job (and they are REALLY strong, I just lift the hatch a few inches and it pops right up now). The job of clearing the latch is really supposed to be taken care of by the little hatch bumpers... ugh. I'm wondering if I just put some new OEM hatch bumpers in if it'll take care of this for a few years. My car is almost 10 years old afterall...

My concern is that they don't last very long. My originals stopped working fairly quickly. I want to buy new ones, but I want aftermarket ones that are stronger and handle this problem better, and for good. Hence the post.

I too bought stronger struts and it did not fix the problem... now adding 2-3 pennies worked 100% for me. No bumps on my hatch either.

New struts did not help mine. 3 or 4 pennies inside the spring boot worked great.

I ordered some new hatch springs from Courtesy... I'll keep you guys posted if those in combination with the new struts fix the problem. I'm guessing they will but only temporarily until the springs get played out again.

I got the springs today and installed them, and they did fix the issue, at least temporarily. We'll see how long they last this time.

I wish I would have seen this before I ordered the replacements! Oh well, now I know what to do for the next time. Thanks.
