Diagnosing a failed starter
I think I have a failed starter.. just trying to diagnose it. I dont have a multimeter to know the live and ground...
1) On ACC, fuel pump turns on and primes. All electricals work. New battery.
2) On crank, I hear a solenoid clicking, but absolutely no cranking.
I'm assuming the brushes on the starter have worn away or something like that. Does that sound right?
I'm also hearing a squeaking sound from the engine bay that is not the belt (not related to starter). Is that a pulley that needs to be replaced?
Getting ready for spring!

a starter is very easy to test. You dont even have to take it out of the car.
Jack up the car, get under and find the starter. There is a black wire with yellow or white stripe on it. its a connector that goes to the harness, disconnect that. Now find a way to send 12 volts through that wire and the starter should turn. Its gonna be loud too so dont get scared. If that starter spins, you got problems elsewhere, if it doesnt spin, take a hammer and give it wack and send voltage down again. If it still doesnt spin, get a new starter. Might seem complicated but its really not.
