Hi all,
I was curious to see what you guys like in terms of engine oil. I've read a few threads, and even the amazing engine oil thread (can't find the link) but am still left not knowing which one.
I'm down to motul vs mobile 1, but I've also heard not so great things about mobile 1..
So, between the two (or if there is another clear better one, by all means do share) which one?
Also for a northern cali climate, what grade? I'm thinking 10W30 should be enough given the temps, but perhaps 5W30 to be on the safe side?
This is for a daily driver 2003 Z.
Thanks

Amsoil is one of the best for the VQ, RP is the worst. There are a lot if good ones inbetween. I use Amsoil 5w40 euro the run Mobil 1 euro if in a pinch.

Thanks man, I did come across Amsoil, forgot to mention. I'll look into it for sure.
Why the 40? Is that more for racing, or is that also your DD? just want to make sure I"m not getting one that too viscous.
Also, I have the V3 Vortech supercharge on the car, but I don't race with it and temps are always in the 180-190 range.
Thanks again

im pretty sure synthetic oil is bad for high compression motors. synthetic has a lower viscocity which means its thinner (not good) and is probably why people are having oil burning issues. the z is high compression at 11:1 and the owners manual says specifically not to use synthetic oil. i would only use synthetic on 9:1 and under personally. ive seen 12:1 corvettes and high compression bikes blow motors due to synthetic. just cause its more expensive doesnt make it better. i get regular oil by a reputable company like penzoil, castrol, or mobil 1 and i dont burn oil or have any problems.
just in case you (or anyone) were thinking about taking your car to wallmart or equivilant, change the oil yourself every 3k miles. its not hard people, and costs around 40$.

I dont know about your areas, but a Costco near me has Mobile1 synthetic for cheap. about $35 for a 6qt case. ~$6 a quart while auto stores are like 8 or 9 bucks a quart. Costco likes to do a lot of $10 off of cases as well, i bought 2 cases at $25 each. Keep an eye out

Well, thanks guys for your opinions and advice.
I mainly wanted to see if there was anything bad per se by going the Mobile or Motul route.
For example, I have used the MOTUL 8100 5W-40 X-cess Synthetic Engine Oil the last time around, but read that Motul can be a more viscous vs Mobile one, and therefore on colder temps not as good.
Anyways, didn't mean to start a crap tread, but was honestly curious and looking to get some advice
