Smile 2004 350Z engine trouble (Help!!!)

I have a 2004 350Z Enthusiast with an automatic transmission and 48,500 miles. A strange thing happened this afternoon while I was driving at about 35mph on a dry pavement. While I was pushing the trip meter button, I noticed that my car seemed to be coasting like the automatic transmission was not even engaged.

I looked at the instrument panel and saw the "SLIP" and "TCS OFF" lamps stay lit. The "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light might have been on, too. I stepped on the gas pedal but I could not rev the engine at all, which stayed at idle. I pulled my car to the curb and shut off the engine for 10 seconds or so. When I started the engine, the "SLIP" and "TCS OFF" lamps got turned off except for the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON". Now, my engine runs like nothing has ever happened.

Has anybody experienced something like this or any idea why and how this happened? Do you have any remedy to avoid this problem in the future? How do I get rid of this "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light? Any help will be appreciated.

You probably need to get your codes read to see what caused the problem. If you aren't interested in that, you can probably disconnect your battery for about an hour. The should clear the code and maybe it won't come back.

I wouldn't clear the code until you know what the hell caused it...go get the code read, wouldn't that be common knowledge?

My SLIP and Traction light usually come on and stay on when my crank sensor throws a code. Go get the codes checked. Advance and Autozone will check codes for free.

Thank you for your input. When you get these lights to come on and stay on, do you get the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light to come on and stay on, too? When this happens, can you rev the engine? In your case (crank sensor problem), how did you fix it?

Hey, guy. DO NOT insult my intelligence. I am hoping to find someone who had the identical symptom and problem with a successful fix. If I can find someone, I even do not have to get the codes, which saves a lot of my time since I am extremely busy. Endless-Summer sounded like he was the one, so that I asked him the pertaining questions.

The code is the proper start point. The same symptoms can be caused by different things, it most likely is a cam sensor failure but you have two and without pulling the codes you won't know which one.

I was thinking of buying a code scanner. But I did a little research on finding the codes. Actually, you do not need a scan tool to find the codes. You can find them on your own without any tools, just use the gas pedal to get to the "Diagnostic Test Mode II" and the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light will flash and you count the numbers to get the codes.

Goto :http://nissanhelp.com/diy/common/nis...des_read_2.php

This site will tell you how to do it. You can even erase the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light by using the gas pedal. I found my code: P2135 - Throttle Position Sensor Range/Performance. I looked up the code in the "AutoZone Repair Guide for 3.5L V6" section.

I hope this site will help some of you find the codes without spending any money. Now, I have the code, I will try to repair the problem.

Scan tools do a lot of useful things, not just pull codes. Counting flashes is so 80's. It's also common knowledge around here, could have been found with a search. Same with your symptoms.

Code is starting point of diagnostic flow, don't jump to conclusions without checking the basics, follow the flowchart on the autozone website.

I have fixed the problem. Just like what the code indicated, it was a defective throttle body sensor. I replaced it with the Nissan remanufactured unit. My car runs fine now.

You got lucky, you threw a part at the car.

It is not a matter of luck here. I had exercised "due diligence" before I bought the part. I researched this site to find the people having the same problem with the same code (P2135). I found a couple of people and I was convinced that it was a defective TB. I am a good mechanic and I do not throw my money away.
