Default strange A/C function findings..

id ont know if my a/c is dead or what, but today it was 15 degrees outside when i started up my car, and the a/c didnt go on. the light was on, but i know the compressor never kicked into gear as you can hear/feel this when it happens, you can also tell it kicked in because the rpm on the car rises about 200rpm.

so either i have a problem with my a/c or the a/c is programmed to not run below a certain temperature...

I just went out to lunch and its a bit warmer here, (24 degrees). This time the ac started. Looks like if the temp goes down too low, the ac just wont kick in. It makes sense since the shop manual says the ac functions dynamically according to temperature.

Your a/c is ok. It will not work if it is too cold outside because of the pressure temperature relationship. The colder it is outside the less system pressure there is so it keeps the compressor from engaging to protect the compressor from running in case the refrigerant had leaked. But once the temps rise the system pressure increases and it lets the compressor engage again.
