Default Possible slim jim attempt to get into car? - Door Lock Rod Issue

So I go in to the dealer to get my oil changed using my extended warranty free oil changes. While I'm there I tell them to look at the locking mechanism up by the door pull on the inside of the door. For some reason it doesn't work.

They are pretty use to seeing me there as I've bought several cars from them and I know most of the guys there.

The Service Advisor comes to me after about 10 minutes and tells me that the door lock rod has came off of the lock assembly. They usually only see this when someone has tried to slim jim a door or improperly put things back together after installing speakers.

I have had my stereo system replaced but that was years ago and had no problems with the lock as I have used it since.

I asked him if it was possible that whoever installed the speaker in the door might have did something to the rod and it could have taken this long for the rod to come completely off of the door lock. He said it's not likely...

I'm wondering if any of you guys have ever had this happend or know of anyone that has had this happen to.

By the way..the dealer was nice enough to only charge me 1/2 of what he could have to fix the lock rod since it was not covered under my extended warranty.

Not sure why using a slim jim is considered a "Tech Forum" issue but would love to get enlightened.

This post would receive a lot more "traffic" with possibly more ideas/responses on the "General" forum.

I'm just sayin...

Considering is actually regarding a repair issue it should be in the Maintenance/Repair section

You're assuming that someone used a slimjim to pry open the door when it could have just been a failure of the locking mechanism.

Slimjim would leave visible indentations in the moulding....

According to the tech's I spoke with slim jim attempt (by some one who knew what they were doing) "would not" leave any indications in the molding...

This was one of the first questions I asked when I was told that this was probably what happened. Per my initial comment, the service advisor and the tech's
see things like this (and many others) all day long and they said that they only see things like this when some one tries to slim jim the door.

Thanks for the enlightenment..
