Broken Z. Several questions.
Hey all!
I've been a Z owner for a few years now and consequently a lurker around these boards for around the same amount of time.
Let's get down to business:
I have an 06 revup.
I replaced the headgasket because the symptoms pointed to that as being my issue. I had the heads inspected/resurfaced and also had the valve sealing tested. The machine shop said there were no issues.
We also assumed that the block was not warped because the heads did not warp and the car never overheated, so I did not have that inspected (which may have been my downfall).
When we completed the repair (following the fsm word for word) and it was cranked back up I still have a lot of coolant burning through the exhaust as well as coolant in the oil. Which leads me to think that it is a cracked block. Needless to say I learned my lesson about doing jobs like this, that I need to check everything I can while it is still apart.
While we had it ripped apart we noticed corrosion in the areas that the coolant travels in the block. Tiny little holes in the aluminium. It could easily be seen in the area that the water pump mounts to the block. Can someone better explain why this happens. Also corrosion on the outer side of the cylinder walls in the area between 2 cylinders.
So my options are:
1)Attempt the repair again, and this time get the block serviced or buy a new block and do it over.
2) Sell the car as it sits
3) buy a used long block and drop it in
I am leaning toward buying the full motor. So if anyone has a full revup for sale let me know or know where to find them (they are much harder to find than a non revup for obvious reasons).
Can a non-revup block be used with revup heads while keeping the same (revup) harness? Because I know the heads are good and non-revup short blocks are easier to find.
Same question as above ^ for HR blocks because I have a full HR motor in my garage.
I am going to assume that I can't buy a non-revup and put it into a revup car with revup harness easily either?
Thanks for your time
I know it was a long read

Sorry to hear your motor went mang. I would take your HR motor to Z Fever (Fever Racing) and have them install it. They did an HR motor in a 04-05 G35 earlier in the year. They are in Florida so I would check them out.
