High Rpms on cold start
hey everyone i dont know if this goes here but ill give it a shot. on a cold start my car idles around 2000-2200 rpms then drops down to around 800-1000 when its warm. can someone help me out on this problem
Cold idle is supposed to be higher than a warm idle. Not sure what year you've got, or what sort of ambient temps ypu're talking about, though. Here in Tampa it was 46F tonight when we went out to get some dinner, and my '08 Z hadn't been run all day. Start-up idle was ~1600rpm, then to ~1200 after a few minutes of sitting in the driveway, and finally back to ~800 when the engine temp was ~140F or so. It's been like that since new. I've never seen it up at the level you mentioned, but my car is an HR with 6MT. Maybe others are different?
I'm near Tampa also. Right when I start the engine the needle goes to 2000 rpms, then idles at around 1400 rpms then after about 5 minutes it has slowly made it's way to about 800 rpms. I have an 04 enthusiast with 84k. Not sure why yours idles so high, I don't think it's a big problem but idk too much about that stuff either.
