I have 39k right now and sometimes when I shift into 1st or 2nd gear at low(parking lot) speeds, it will grind a little unless I "rev match". But as soon as I come to a complete stop, it will go in fine. This only seems to happen when it's not warmed up and only one downshifting, not when I'm accelerating.


It was driven by a 16 year old kid for about 3k miles before his dad decided it was too much for him. So I figure I might give the transmission fluid a try.

What would you guys recommend? I normally would just buy OEM but maybe you guys had similar problems and found that other fluids helped more?

Also, are there any adjustments on the shifter? I've had cars that wouldn't shift well unless the shifter linkage was adjusted properly..

 

Sounds like the dreaded syncro problem Z's are known for. But you have an 06 and I don't recall the later Z's with the gear grinding problem. With my 03 people have told be to just get new snycros or learn to deal with it and rev match. Another thing is switching the transmission to a CD009 (I think that's it, research it because I don't want to give you wrong information). I've learned how to get more in sync with my car but once in the blue my timing will be a little off and I would get the slight grinding. If you don't want to pay to fix it or upgrading to a different transmission you can just learn to be more in sync with your car to avoid the problem.
