Castrol gtx hm or Valvoline Max life?
Hey everyone,
I bought a Z with around 73k miles a month back. I did an oil change a few weeks back using Castrol Edge 10w30. The oil has approximately 2,000 miles on it and I have lost about half a quart in my DE.
The dealership did an oil change when I bought it and used Dino oil. I had 2,000 miles on that Dino oil and had about 4.80 quarts when I drained it.
I was thinking about going back to Dino oil. Any recommendations?

It sounds like your VQ is consuming additional oil due to worn rings or other wear. Whether you're using a conventional or synthetic oil, this wear will continue to result in some loss. If you're really looking for a recommendation, you're in luck. Resolute put together an excellent thread about used oil analysis (UOAs) for our VQs that has some fact-based recommendations:

What year is your car?
How many cars have you owned?
First of all,if you are using the amount of oil drained as a yardstick,it is not accurate.
Why?Because there is always some amount of oil left in the engine. You are talking a half
a qt.Did you check the oil level at the time the oil was changed at the dealer?Or,did
you assume it was at full on the dipstick. You may be a bit paranoid about this oil thing.
I would'nt use a full synthetic.Use a syn blend,5w30.

Thanks for the replies
I have an 04 Z. I did not check the oil level at the dealership but I did check it a week after and it was topped off..
Right now, at 2,100 on castrol Syntec I'm about 1/3 from L. I don't remember what the level was when I did the oil change myself. I'm probably being paranoid.

Well just finished an oil change. When I drained the oil, I got 4 quarts out of it. Like you said, there should be some left in the engine.. So I probably lost between 1/2-3/4 in 2,100 miles.
