Default The dreaded 3rd gear grind and no warranty, what do?

Just today my clutch started grinding into 3rd, even while my clutch pedal was fully pressed in. It doesn't engage for a second or so after I press the pedal to the floor (it takes a full second for the rpms to drop).

Looked it up and saw that other people have had this problem too, except they were still under warranty and had the whole tranny replaced to cd009. Stupid syncro. I however don't think I'm under warranty as I bought it used 2 months ago (it's an 03) and I also don't have $2k cash laying around to replace it... what do?

I bought a used cd009 for $600 online and had it shipped to my installer and he charged $600 for the install.

So total $1200.

Really you got to replace it or live with grind.

Nothing to do but to replace it.

Maybe try slowing your shifts a little bit.

bite the bullet and replace the clutch and PP while you are at it if you plan to keep the car.

I did skip 3rd all day today and even 5th as it was grinding this morning.

Yet, when I wanted to show the problem to a friend of mine, it was grind free, even when I shifted fast. My car has a mind of it's own?

Yeah I've seen the $600 CD009's online and I would definitely upgrade to a JWT clutch if I do replace it. I will also put it in myself as my friend has a lift. I will test drive tonight and confirm what's up. Shifting slower is nice and all but I bought this car as a sports car, not a damn minivan

Save up and wait for a cd09 trans to pop up online and snag it. I got mine off ebay for less than 300 last year and picked it up at the guys house. Install it yourself and save a lot of money and upgrade that clutch/flywheel at the same time.

This is definitely the best option. I took my Z out tonight and only noticed the grind when I shift fast from 2nd to 3rd in low rpms. When I'm WOT and shifting at ~6600 from 2nd to 3rd fast there is no grind. Also 5th gear doesn't grind at all now. For now, I shall just deal with it

Would changing the transmission gear fluid to Redline MTL/MT-90 mix help at all?

I had a grind from 1-2 very rarely, when bagging on it usually, and since I changed to redline I haven't had a problem since. so now I use redline for everything. and really it only takes 3L so for the $40 its worth a shot?

had this problem on the cars original trans. replaced with 700 dollar junk yard trans only to find it was funked too, repeated process a few times figuring I would eventually get one that worked. seemed like a never ending cycle till I bit the bullet and dropped in a CD-009 straight out of the crate from nissan. problem solved........ moral of the story do it right the first time and be done with it.

You can rev match to eliminate the grind. Cd009 sell for under 1000$ and the transmission isn't too hard to replace. Grab some car guys and drop a little cash to them to replace it if you can't live with rev-matching 3rd.

i hade a very small grind when going into third when i first got my car 2 years ago. i put redline mt85 and it went away.

only issue i have now is that i cant bang it into second at redline, i gotta wait half a second.

if you have a bad grind, oil wont help you.

I would learn to live with it until you can replace it.

mine did the same thing when she was first getting warmed up in the mornings, i then changed the trans fluid and havnt had any problems since. Changing your trans fluid may be the band-aid instead of stitches solution that your looking for haha. Wont fix the problem but it may help
