Default Rear Caliper Removal Help

Hey guys,

Im trying to replace my rear rotors and I'm having a tough time getting the caliper bolts off. My car is an 03 and it looks like the brake rotors haven't been replaced in a long time. I live in Canada and the car has been winter driven, so everything is pretty rusty. I've hit it with enough liquid wrench to sink a ship already.

I cannot get enough torque on any of the 4 caliper bolts (2x 14mm and 2x19mm) to get them to break loose. I cant get a big enough breaker bar on them and the area is too tight to get an impact wrench on any of the bolts.

Does anyone have any advice about getting a better angle on the bolts? I am willing to remove suspension parts since I am doing a coilover/camber arm install as well.

Thanks.

Slip a pipe over your breaker bar. That should give you enough leverage.

did you let it sit long enough after the liquid wrench?. PB Blaster has worked for me in the past. A day before I start the install I spray it in so it sits overnight.

PB Blaster for sure…spray it every hour and let it sit…obviously it's well-rusted on...

Thx for the replies. I can't get a pipe on my breaker bar since there isnt physically enough room to even get my breaker bar on the bolts. I did manage to break free the top 14mm and the top 19mm nuts but i can't even get a breaker bar on the bottom two nuts. One of the suspension arms is in the way. About all I can do is get a 14mm box wrench on it which is not nearly enough torque. I can't get the arm off either, no room for tools again.

When I get a nut or a bolt that's really on there (and there is little or no room for a breaker bar), I spray the heck out of it with lubricant. Then, I'll take a wrench that I don't really care about, place it onto the nut or bolt and then whack it with a rubber mallet or a regular hammer in the approrpriate "release" direction. That generally solves my problem.

Remember, righty tighty, lefty loosey.....
