So yesterday the motor that pops open the trunk died on me. I found a guy on my local craigslist parting out his Z but he wants $100 for it. I can buy a new one on courtesy parts for $160. Do you think the local guys is asking too much or is it a good deal? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

At 100 bucks,its a good deal as long as the motor(actuator)is not almost
as bad as the one you are replacing lol.I'd prolly buy the one from the Craigs
guy and see what happens.FYI,this part has gone down in price from Nissan.
It used to be over $200.In fact,I just replaced mine(again).My local dealer
quoted me $206!I showed him the Courtesy price.I got it for the 160.I'm
thinking that like many other parts for the 350(since not in production),Nissan
wants to lower their inventory.This actuator is really not made well.What wears
e'm out is the common having-to-press-the -button a few times to open the trunk
because it does not pop open.New lift springs fix this.Updated ones are a bit stiffer.
The deck pops open the way it should.The negative is these little spring lifts are
about 30 bucks each.

Update on this:
after I installed a new actuator,I looked at the old "broken" unit.
It had screws holding it together.Took it apart.Found a broken spring that
was easily fixed.Works as good as new!
Did not know this part was rebuildable!
Would have saved myself 160 bucks had I known!!
I'm thinkin all the Z owners that have plunked down their
hard earned cash for a new actuator when they could
have fixed it in about 20 minutes!

I've already taken it apart. The electric motor inside is fried. I took it apart cleaned and soldered the connections. Helped a little but it's still a hard time to get it open.
