TSB rear axle in 2006 350z
Hello all.. I've done lots of searching regarding this TSB and couldn't find my answer.
I have an 06 350z, about a month ago (54k miles) I started hearing the clicking noise from my rear axle. Sounds like the passenger side only. My car currently has 55k miles and the many dealerships I've called said I'm out of my 6yr powertrain warranty so the TSB will not be free.
I'm guessing this is the case, but has anybody been able to get the TSB work done for free after the powertrain warranty has ran out? Also my car is an 06, while the TSB states for 03-05.. I think I'll be footing the bill to fix this. I have thought about fixing it myself, but not sure if I should go this direction. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

That's what I'm thinking. Only problem is the more I've read the more it sounds like a temporary fix and the clicking will come back. So, is it worth spending $200 for a band aid? I really don't think it is. But to have the noise go away would be nice.
Also, can there really be no long term effect on the parts making the noise?

I ordered my 05 brand new special order. In the first year the right started making the noise. The dealer did this under warranty and at around 60,000 miles it came back. Eventually both sides did it. I too had never had my hands on the parts and the picture in the TSB does not really do it justice. It is just a thin metal washer greased up that goes between the axle and the hub/bearing. It will not wear anything out. I PMed another member that is a service writer at Nissan and he assured me that it will not hurt anything. What we do recommend is that you keep an ear out for the noise to change and not ignore a bad wheel bearing someday and also when your tires get changed make sure that the axle nut is tight. There have been some people on this board that had a noise or wobble in the rear and the axle nut was only finger tight! It is not probably related to the click but again don't let the noise you are used to make you ignore every other little noise you may get. I performed the TSB when I put in a different rear end at 180,000 miles since I'd be stupid to leave the old washers in there when I had the chance.
I honestly did not think it bothered me at all but when it's quiet again it sure is nice! I wouldn't spend any money on it if I were you if it does not bother you. It can come back for sure. One thing I can add is that it never got any louder. Sounded the same every day for 120,000 miles! Definatley sleep on it for awhile if the warranty is over...
