Default Tire Road Noise- Z going in for service

I don't have tire feathering YET, but I do have the annoying tire
growl. The Z goes in a week from tomorrow to have the TSB for the tire noise completed. Is this a wise move and does this TSB work? I only have 5900 miles on the car.

welcome to the growing group. I also have the same problem and my car is going in for service tomorrow. NNA has agreed to replace my front two tires. Now I have to convince them that i don't want the OEM's and would rather take the S-03 and that I will cover the differance. Good luck with your service.

Do you have tire feathering or just the road noise? Does the TSB replace the tires if you only have road noise? Keep me posted. I would love to upgrade to the S-03s. Thanks!

What do you mean you don't have feathering? What's causing the tire noise then?

How did you guys get the NNA to replace your tires? I went to 3 dealers, they did nothing, and talked to the NNA over a period of 3 days and in the end they kept telling me that it was normal wear! AHHHHHHH

No feathering. When I slow down the tires "growl". The sound has become worse over time. I compared the sound to another 2003 Z with 7k miles. Couldn't hear the growl in that car. We'll see what happens. It might be the onset of feathering though.

I hate to tell you that if you're hearing tire noise(growl), you are experiencing tire feathering. Otherwise, your wouldn't be hearing the "growl". Evidently you don't know how to inspect your tires.

Just feel the inner tread blocks on the fronts, sweep your hand up and down; you'll notice how the leading edge of each block is higher than the trailing edge, each in a slanted or sloping formation. This is called feathering my friend. Welcome to the real world!

It may be feathering, but the growl has really just started to surface. I am quite familiar with what feathering looks like. So far the distribution of the tire wear seems to be equal on both sides (to the human eye and touch). I do believe the growl will become worse with time and the feathering will begin to expose itself. This why the car is going to the dealership now for the applicable TSBs. Now the question is will the TSBs fix it....most likely not and unfortunately that is the real world. Stay tuned.

Trust me, i know the TSB will not fix it. This is only a temporary fix, where your left inner tread blocks will now be your right outer tread blocks, and vice versa. After the TSB, the fresh inner tread blocks on both sides will soon begin to deteriorate(feather). Your car will feel like it's on a new set of tires, no growl or road noise when braking. But within 2-4k miles, the feathering will return. It's only a temporary fix, i promise you. Good luck

Hey Shift..... correct me if I am wrong, but there is nothing the dealer can do to fix the feathering long term, right? We're screwed more or less, right?

I just had mine front tires swapped because of the tire roar, and there's no difference at all! The noise is still present. Any thoughts? My dealer said they will not replace tires only 1 alignment and TSB tire swap. Car only has 7500 miles.

I have had this tire growl when slowing down too -- from say 25 MPH til stopping. Who has a 6spd and Auto -- mine is an Auto -- well off to the dealership again -- ya for me.

Mine is a 6-speed. I have 6,000 miles on it. Production date 3/2003. It is in the shop today for:

Road Noise/Tire Feathering
Rattle from hatch area
Service engine soon light
Brake squeak
Cup holder broken for second time (has never worked)
Oil change
Noise from transmission

I am not happy.

Dealer just called. They are doing the tire swap TSB and ordering a new control arm for the drifting to the right. Looks like I am screwed with feathering. Time to call and file a formal complaint.
Do I get new tires if the tire noise/feathering comes back?

Yes. They normally wont give new tires until you start feathering AFTER the TSB is performed. Some people are getting new tires at the first sign of feathering but this isn't the norm

The rattle from hatch area is probably your rear strut bar. What transmission noise are you getting?

Dissolved,

The rattle from the hatch area sounds like it is coming from the trunk latch. When you close the hatch you can hear it, but it may be the strut bar. It is a high pitched rattling...almost mettalic. Isn't there a TSB for that? My transmission whistles when it is cold (6sd) and goes away once the car is warm. I am keeping records for everything. My car was fine one minute and now it feels like it is falling apart. TBD.....

Just had my TSB done 1K ago. I noticed today that they not only swapped the front tires (correctly), they swapped the front rims (incorrectly). I wonder if my pressure sensors are on the correct wheels?

Another quality job by Nissan. Nissan makes thermoses too. Tells you something, just not sure what.
