Default 2008 350z low oil pressure on external gauge

Hello Everyone, im new here, i joined because im having an issue with my VQ35HR with 51k miles

basically my oil pressure gauge in the car has been showing below the halfway point between 0-30

the FSM says it should be over 14psi at idle, mine was showing low so the dealer checked with a external gauge to make sure it wasnt the sending unit or the sensor. It read 11.61 psi at idle FSM states over 14PSI the dealer said its within spec and not to worry? Are they trying to pull a fast one on me, im going to call the service manager today, just wanted to get opinions from you guys.

is this acceptable? maybe my oil pump is going out, maybe something worse?

thanks

Take a pic of your gauge at idle and at operating temp. Mine has always been very close to the first line and im at 127K now without issues. I did notice slightly higher pressure at idle when I switched from Mobil1 to the new Penzoil platinum oil which I'm very impressed with btw lol

its not close to the first line, its below half way to the fist line, ill try and post a pic later, although it should be pretty straight forward as to what an external gauge looks like when it reads 11.6 psi :P

I assume you have checked how much oil you have added and aren't low?

Read this:
http://www.international-auto.com/fi...ure-gauges.cfm

Oil px doesn't change for no reason. If its out of FSM limits, it is serious.

thanks for the read, my oil prerssure seems fine at other rpms above spec, there are no engine noises or knocking of any sort that concerns me. its just at idel after the cars been fully warmed up run on the highway to work etc

delaer wants to bring it in again, and retest with new gauges

if it tests like this again what do i push for? i snuck it in under warranty close to the last day lol, and have documented with nissan head office whats been going on

If you got it in on the last day of warranty, I'd definitely keep good records. If your problem develops into something serious, and Nissan subsequently dicks you around I'd consider legal action if necessary. Might be able to argue that they didn't want to cover it under warranty, and hoped you would just go away until after the warranty expired.

What's the oil pressure at other engine speeds when the engine is warmed up?

How long has it been since you changed the oil and filter? Are you certain the correct weight oil was used? With so many new engines using very thin oil, it would be easy for a quick-change place to use the wrong kind.

Just changed the oil and filter for motul 5w40 as recommended by my tuner , oil is up to the upper level

At 3000rpm it's up to 30/40 psi it will go over 60 at higher rpm but it's always lower than spec

Removing the oil filler and I can see plenty of oil splashing around on the cam

Car drives fine with no noises , rattles or knocking

If not something like a bad oil pump or clogged pickup tube, likely an indication of worn bearings inside the motor. Plumbing an external gauge could also help eliminate some uncertainty.

I have an 04 with 95k but my gauge always reads 90 right away on a cold start, 25-30 idling (with a/c on), 60 cruising, and around 90 WOT. If I turn my a/c off it goes to about 15-25 idling. Honestly if mine was reading that low I would look into it but only because mine has always been around 30 psi at idle.
