Default 03 350z AT code P1229 plague

Ive been plagued with an issue for a while now (3 months or so) and on my spare time off work I still cant seem to find the problem.

Heres the rundown - car ran fine one day, was started the next morning, and immediately threw the SES, slip, and traction control lights. Car will not rev past 1900-2000 RPM. Its been sitting for 3 months.

Codes pulled -
0550 - power steering pressure sensor
0451 - evap system pressure sensor
0452 - evap system pressure sensor
2122 - accel pedal pos sensor
2138 - accel pedal pos sensor
1229 - sensor power supply

I did a quick search when it happened and ordered another accelerator pedal sensor. I replaced it and no change. I ordered a throttle body after that suspecting the TPS. I reset the ECU and it seemed to be ok. I backed it out of the driveway and drove about 20 feet before it threw the SES, slip, and traction lights again. It stumbles a bit and wont rev above 2k RPM.

So... using the FSM, I suspect the code P1229 is the main problem because the power steering, evap, refrigerant, and accel pedal are all linked to that code.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I was tinkering around with it today. I reset the ECU and the codes and lights came back within 5 seconds. I googled a bit and people seem to think it could be crank and/or cam sensors... but the ECU doesnt throw any codes for the cam/crank sensors so how would that work?

I really dont want to just be throwing new parts at it without verifying whats going on. And I really dont want to have to pay Nissan a couple thousand to run it over!

Too late for that.

Take it to Nissan and get it scanned on their CONSULT scanner. What you learn by spending $120 for a proper scan will probaby save you a LOT of money in the end (especially considering what you've already done).

I threw $100 at it on a throttle body and pedal sensor because a quick search taught me that was most likely the cause.

However, Im taking your advice and having a buddies brother that works at the Nissan dealership hook it up to a Consult tomorrow and hopefully find the small fault. It gets towed in the AM before work and Ill hopefully be able to drive it home after work.

Ill keep this posted because this issue isnt all that common and others might need the help.

Thanks for the advice zakmartin. I took it to Nissan and they scanned and brought up the same codes I had found however they have a database of fixes for the P1229 code that Nissan has used across the nation that I cannot access.

I knew through the FSM on EC page 494 (http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/) that the power steering pressure switch, refrigerant sensor, or EVAP sensor could be at fault OR a short in some of that wiring OR the pedal sensor/throttle body could be at fault. I had already swapped out the pedal and throttle sensor so the tech looked towards the other sensors.

Turns out a person somewhere in the nation had replaced a radiator with an aftermarket one and it rubbed on the refrigerant sensor and caused a short giving the P1229 code. Well, I let the tech know I had too replaced the radiator with an aftermarket aluminum radiator and BOOM, theres the problem. The refrigerant sensor was at fault. He unplugged it, reset the ECU, and the problem went away. When he plugged it back it and it heated up, the problem was back. The connection was jacked.

I am now driving it back and forth to work and all is GOOD. I am a happy camper.

Moral of the story, keep following the FSM and it will more than likely help solve your problem.

Anyone that needs help with a P1229, feel free to post or contact me.
