im having some issues on my 03 350z i bought it back in march with 69k miles and ive noticed some issues that i want to try and fix before having to take it to get looked at. first when the car is around 70 miles an hour if you hold the rpms steady i get a weird whistle/squeel sound but its only if you try to hold it steady. second when im barely moving in first or reverse the power steering is non existent and as you give it more gas it slowly fades in but even when it fades in i dont think it is fully working. and last once in awhile (it seems to be becoming more frequent) when i let off the gas completely after accelerating i seem to get a vibration sound and my shifter gets alot more vibration to it if you pump the clutch once it goes away. im sorry if any of these questions sound noobish im still trying to get more mechanical with cars but any help is greatly appreciated.

For the near non-existent power steering fluid, pop the hood and check the fluid levels, and top off if needed.

Not sure about the other issues though, sorry!

So if its not fluid I would look into your ps pump. It's not hard to swap out. As far as your vibrations go I would make sure your wheels/tires are balanced before you get too deep into anything, there may be more to it with your clutch pumping?? the squealing maybe a something on your belts or quite possible a wheel bearing…
You mentioned 70mph as the trigger for the sound…can you go 70mph in 6th gear versus 70mph in 4th gear and does the sound remain? if you can rule-out the engine speed variable you can narrow down your diagnosis area - I would assume with 70k miles you have a wheel bearing on it's way out. And vice-versa, if the squeal is at a specific RPM (and not a speed) then you can look into your belts and ps/alt/AC setups
where are you deployed to? Thank you for your service - work safe!

My shifter rattles when I get on the gas at all even just slightly. The whistle sound though. Do you know if the car was slightly modified? That sound might be a intake/plenum issue like someone putting a spacer on wrong or without a gasket.

mine too, but just slightly, enough to make me not really do anything about it.
def a possibility but wouldnt it squeal more or less depending on speed and/or engine speed?

im not sure its not an rpm issue it only does it in the range from like 70 to 80 and only if im trying to cruise at it if im accelerating it doesnt do it. as for the shifter vibrations its very noticeable it sounds like your hitting the rumble strip on the side of the road but as soon as i pump the clutch or give it a decent amount of gas it goes away im really just trying to make sure it isnt a trans issue thats all i need. and thank you for the thank you im doing my second tour in afghanistan.

thanks for everyones help on this im really trying to focus in on the power steering problem. nissan recently quoted me 1200 to fix the power steering pump which is ridiculous. but im not sure what to expect for a price on a new power steering pump and steering rack plus install, anyone done this and know around what i should spend?
