Please Help! Oil pressure problem!!
I just drove my Z to Kansas and this morning I started the car, it always gets warmed up and today I left a little late so didn't let it warm up like I always do, the oil pressure gauge started to go up as I revved through gears, and it drops back to normal when I press the clutch and let off the accelerator, while it was in neutral I revved it up to around 5k rpm and the gauge went up to 120 psi, but as soonest the rpms drop the gauge drops back to the normal readings I get which is around 40 psi while idleing, I drove it for 1600 miles and I checked the oil level and is low, will this cause the issue or do you guys have any suggestion, all the help is highly appreciated!! Thanks!!
How low is LOW when you checked your oil level?
One qt low etc?
I'm assuming you are a new owner or,new to the forum...
Sure would be good for you new guys to give more info on your
Z...year,miles,trim etc when you post.We may get to the source
of your problem quicker.
Any chance you have a 06?Does your car usually use oil?
Another factor is many Z's with some miles have gauges that stick.
My oil pressure is great. However, every now&then the gauge will peg
to max.A lttle tap on top of the gauge pops it back to normal. This usually happens when the car is cold.

My apologies its a 2003 Track, it has around 50K miles, and I have knowledge that VQ engines are known to burn lots of oil as much as 1qt per 1k mile, the level on the dipstick was about 2cm above the L, I have a lil of knowledge about cars but as you said I'm new to Z's.
Also I may have not put it into the correct words, I tried to explain it as best as I could, while the car is idling at 1k rpm oil pressure is normal at 50 psi and it stays there as I take off the gauge automatically starts going up like just like the rpms and then when I let off the throttle it drops then put it back in gear it goes up again just like a tachometer, I shifted all day today at 3.5k rpms and the gauge showed the pressure going up to 80 psi and dropping back as soonest I either let off the accelerator or put it on neutral
ooh alright, now that's a whole different thing. first let your engine cool off for 30 minutes, after with the engine off check your oil. If it's low add some. Then turn the car on if it's still doing the same thing you might have a bad oil pressure sensor. mine was doing almost the same thing but mine was going all the way to 120 after a couple days my sensor went bad. everything got fix by replacing oil sensor.

There was a problem with 06 cars.Have never seen a accurate survey on oil use.Only info is from owners I know.My 03 Touring uses no oil between 6k changes.I could top it up with a third of a qt if needed.I've got 90k miles.
I've heard of problems of owners buying used Z's .They immediately change to a full synthetic like Mobil 1.Could lead to problems in using oil.I've always used 5w30 synthetic blend.Mostly Valvolene.
What kind&weight of oil are you using.
When buying a used Z,stay away from the "boutique" oils.
You are asking for trouble unless you have accurate records of what oil
was used in the car.
Easy answer. Your oil pressure sending unit is bad and needs to be replaced. If you do it yourself, be very careful. It is easy to destroy the threads and then your problem gets expensive.
