My 350z did something weird but I can't see to replicate the problem
Hi Guys, this is my first post. I have a 2003 Enthusiast model all stock with 101,000 miles on it. I have had it since 2005 and it's been great. Never had any major problems besides a faulty trunk actuator and a broken door handle. However, about a week ago I was driving to work and came to a stop light and my car just started shaking and pulsating. I also noticed a the rotten egg type of smell. I drove two more blocks and every time I was stopped, the vehicle would begin to pulsate. As I pulled into the parking lot my SES light flashed twice then went away. I immediately parked, then told my boss that I needed to take my car to get checked out.
I started up the car with no problem and still noticed the rotten egg smell, however it was not pulsating anymore when stopped. I told the mechanic what was going on and he said he would take a look and give me a call. I then went back to work and anxiously awaited his call. A few hours later the mechanic called me back and confirmed that he also smelled the rotten egg smell but did not notice any pulsating or shaking of the car when idle. He mentioned a possible bad catalytic converter but he was unable to pull any codes so he asked me to leave it with him for another day and he would see if he could replicate the problems after driving it around for another day.
The next day the mechanic called me back and said that he drove the car around for 10 -12 miles with no problems and no bad smell. He refused to charge me anything and told me to bring it back if I notice any more issues. This guy does work on a lot of nissans and several 350z owners referred me so I'm inclined to believe he knows what he's talking about.
So It's been about a week since all that happened and there have been no problems whatsoever, although now I'm paranoid of every little rattle and sound I hear. I've been racking my brain trying to think of every problem possible. Did someone mess with my exhaust or my gas tank possibly? Or did I get a bad batch of gas? I'm really not sure. I don't want to make anything worse if there is something seriously wrong with my car. If anyone has an idea of what I should check, I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks again for your time.
