Default Loose / Jiggle / Play in Steering

I've been researching for a few months now as well as looking over the car and can not find where the issue is. I've come here hoping someone can either shed some light, provide alternative ideas or maybe even similar problems.

The best way I can describe it is there is about a 1/2 inch of "play" from left to right in the steering. This is in any instance, sitting in the garage, slow speed and high speeds. I can move the steering wheel slightly left and right without any input in the handling. Even without the key in , it will have that "loose" feeling just jiggling the wheel. A good example is I can be going down the highway, and slightly wiggle the wheel left to right without there being any input in handling.

This just began after my TT build, in which the steering shaft had to be taken out. I'm thinking this may have been the cause, maybe an improper re-install, an adjustment or tightening that needs to be made, or even a blown bushing?

I've looked over the steering shaft that's under the dash as well as the shaft that's in the engine bay. The oddest thing is it feels as if the steering wheel is loose yet the steering shaft is still reacting to all the inputs.

I've also thought of the possibility of a blown tie rod end, but I just don't think that's the case as it literally feels like the steering wheel is loose, but yet the steering shaft is turning a long with the wheel. I've also ruled out any linkage problem in the steering shaft because each section is turning as it should. (I may be wrong on this though?)

I'll post a video later tonight to better explain it, but in the meantime can anyone shed some light on this? It's extremely annoying that I can't locate the problem.

As you said they probably didn't use lock tight on something when putting it back together...

Call the shop...schedule for them to look at it

or

get alot of ziplock bags and take pictures at each step to remove the steering wheel and check everything all the way through...

I recommend the first option.

Shop is saying he believes it's the GTM universal coupler. Reading around I've seen just a few people with similar complaints.

Still not 100% sure. Will continue researching and looking over the part itself more. Might have CIN, whose only an hour away, take a look at it.

No clue, but it's definitely not a tie rod end. You'd feel a "wobble" with braking.
