Hate to say it, but with no insurance you're going to end up paying far more. Without getting a full assessment done through CONSULT, you have no idea what's wrong. Is it the ECM, or perhaps a damaged circuit in the IPDM, or something else?
It's also now going to be difficult to get insurance on your Z, since records will show the car was not insured for at least some time. Most companies will be leery of taking on a car with such a history, since they have no way of knowing whether some pre-exisiting damage (such as in your case) exists.
