Unhappy NEED HELP! My Z is throwing a lot of white smoke from exhaust!

Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section ,I'm new to the forums. Forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place. Just need some help or advice.

2006 350Z automatic.

My Z was leaking oil from the valve cover gaskets, I'm new to being under the hood so I decided to change the gaskets myself just to learn.
I watched a video on how to do it and it seemed like it was just a project to it so I went ahead and did it.
I changed them and put the stuff back.

Only thing is that I didn't remember how everything went back. I managed to out it all back together and I tried to start the car, but now it was taking along time to start. And when it turned on it was throwing a lot of smoke. I forgot to plug in the anti freeze line that goes on the throttle by the back. So it leaked everywhere. I plugged it in. Started the car and it did the same thing. I kept revving it and I just turned it off.

Next day I went back to work on it, took it apart ,my bro in law helped me out and he noticed I connected to spark plug sensors in the wrong ones. He switched them up and put them how they were supposed to go. Then he noticed I didn't click in the sensor that goes in back of the driver side valve cover.

Put everything back , car turned on fast and sounded good.
But then it started letting a lot of white smoke front he exhaust.
It will stop once I drive it for a bit ,but once I come to a stop and then take off, it lets it out again. It does it everything now..

Idk what to do.

Any ideas on what it might be?
I read somewhere that maybe I broke the cylinder heads. But I'm hoping that's not the case.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I love this car, it's my 2nd one.

it sounds like a head gasket, if u had the coils firing at the wrong time you could "potentially" cause some damage. unlikely, but possible. go to your local autozone and rent the "block tester". that will give you a good indication of you blew a head gasket or not. cheap, and easy to do. the test, not the head gasket.

Cudaben thanks for the reply.. Yeah I was revving the engine up for a while and smoke kept coming out of the engine .. All bad all bad.. But I will definitely go to autozone and borrow that tool you mentioned. Thanks a lot. Do you know how much it would cost to get the heads fixed if that's the issue?

First of all, check your oil and see if its mixed with antifreeze. It should look kinda milky.

Second, Is the smoke has a blue-ish color? it could be oil leaking into the cylinder. Or does it taste sweet? it could be antifreeze.

If there is a sweet smell in the car it is the head gasket. Also can you take a video of the smoke, maybe we can help depending on the amount and color..

If it's a head gasket you're talking thousands of dollars. I've had that issue with a Subaru and simply sold it as parts.

the oil may not be mixing with coolant, that would be a bad head gasket failure. but it is a good place to start, it free and easy to check too. a small head gasket failure could produce white smoke and not have enough coolant entering the cylinder to mix with the oil, I.E. its being burnt too fast.

1. check oil
2. do block tester if oil isn't milky
3. report findings for more assistance

The guy blew up his own car. He had to take off the coolant lines to the throttle body and said he started the car with a coolant line disconnected. Never said he added coolant back or bled the system.

The car still drives good that's the weird part. I drove it from my sisters house all the way back to LA with no issues. It was a 2hr drive... No overheating or anything. Just smoke when I came to a stop. I'm gonna do the block test today. And hopefully it's just a blown head gasket.
Maybe a broken pcv valve. It came off when I disconnected and when I tried to put it back on the hole it goes on it stayed loose. I took the top part if the plenum off and it had a bit of oil in it..

he also never stated he didn't do any of that. seems like a rash judgement call, considering a low coolant engine would run hot, and a symptom of it would not be white smoke out of the exhaust. But maybe you have more experience in this area than i do.

Got it fixed already. Turns out I broke the pcv valve .. It was letting oil into the plenum top part. $13 for the piece. Woo! Glad it wasn't something worse.

Cars up n running smooth as ice.lol. Thanks everyone. It turned out to be the pcv valve. It broke when I disconnected it. $12 for the plastic piece at autozone. Stopped throwing smoke after replacing it. Glad it wasn't anything worse.

Its good to hear it was just the PCV valve. The head gasket would have cost you a lot of $$$$.
