Default Burning oil 2004 350z, Liverpool, England!

Hi guys.

Greetings from Liverpool, England. I have joined this site as it is far better than what we have in England!

OK, my problem is my 350z is burning oil. I am third owner from new, it's a 2004 with 37,000 genuine miles on the clock. I am using Motul 5w/30 oil. Got no blue smoke at start at all. When driven hard (once in a blue moon), gear change is at 4,200 RPM, had it to 145mph no problem, no problems with acceleration. Putting a litre of oil in every 1200 miles. Is this common?

Been told, it could be the rings and this is expensive. Previous owners cared for car and I have all previous service history from Nissan, then service history from third party. Guys, I have no mechanic back ground. The lad who looks after my car I trust, they build bespoke rally cars in Liverpool.

Anybody else have this problem with a 2004 350z? Many thanks in advance to anyone who offers me advice.

Cheers fellas.

G.

It is not common.Especially with those low miles.
My 03,with over 90k,uses no oil between 6k oil changes.
What oil pressure do you show at idle after warm up and
at say 60 mph?I'd try a little heavieroil and see if it helps.

The VQ35DE doesn't usually burn oil. With no mechanical background, you're somewhat limited in what you can do. Perhaps you can pay your lads to do a leakdown test and determine what condition those rings are in. Also, consider doing a used oil analylsis (UOA) the next time you change your oil to see if the results tell you anything. What grade and brand of oil are you using?

I have an 04 Z as well and I'm burning oil. I'm burningabout a quart every 1800 miles with about 83k on the motor.
There's honestly nothing really you could do about it besides making sure you don't go pass the min level.
I submitted an uoa and got really good results. I plan to ride this engine till it breaks then find another rebuilt de and put it in there.
