tranny grind
Trying Motul 75 w 90. On a cold day, first shift into 2nd means constant pressure on the stick and waiting for the transmission to agree to shift. Through the gears a couple of times & shifts are smooth. Haven't run the Motul long enough to get a good average of MPG but with a South Bend "Black" racing flywheel the gearbox is quiet.
New transmission in Oct. on Nissan's dime @ 46k mile. Last one (OP) sounded like a coffee can full of gravel & hung up between 5th & 6th.

I have no real issues in the cold with redline, except for going into first before coming to a dead stop. It's still no issue for me though, I know how to match 'em up and can double clutch if necessary.
^^^ Also have a 2003, but with a transmission replacement (done in 2008 under Nissans generous and fair warranty before I hit 5 years or 60k).
I’m in a cold climate so I use a lighter transmission fluid. I’ve never experienced any issues (noise, grinding, whatever) with the new transmission and my clutch assembly.

SOrry to bring back an old thread, but this is where using the search functin has led me. I have an 08 with 160k. i get the random cold morning grind but when the fluid heats up its fine. I also get the same grinding noise after driving for about an hour at hwy speeds of 60-70 mph and then coming to a stop at a light and pressing in the clutch. Usually goes away after about a day. Only thing is i drive for about 30 minutes to work every morning and when i park at work it never does this. Could it be an issue with bleeding the clutch line?? or TOB?
To my knowledge its the original clutch. I did schedule a time with the shop on monday to take it in and have the fluids changed and have them bleed the clutch just to be sure. Going to have the trans, diff and clutch fluids all replaced. We will see if that changes anything.
The throwout bearing could be the source of the sound. Without a maintenance history on the car and without hearing the sound itself, it's hard to give you an exact diagnosis over the internet.
