Please Help_Identify where this bolt goes
Hi All,
I found this bolt under my 05 350z today, looked underneath the car, cannot find any holes where this could go. I couldn't find any other #11 bolts. It appears to have a custom pattern at the end to prevent unthreading and also has a captive washer. Have any of you come across this bolt or know where it goes?
Thank You

It's a self-tapping screw. The gaps in the threads at the end act like the flutes on a regular tap. You can bet it was holding something important in place, but not something critical.
Was it under the front or the rear of the car? Have any major work done on the car recently?
I'm thinking something like the sway bar mounting brackets. The self-tapping screw would go into a fairly heavy section of the unit body reinforcement under the car.

Hi. Can't tell what region of the car it was from as I found the bolt in the driveway a day later. No work was performed. I hope the dealer can give me some insight on possible locations. You said self tapping so there is no corresponding bolt.? I wonder if a shield or other part is obstructing the hole. Thx for your help

Its a 19mm, 100% sure its from the Z as the only other car it could from is a 97 corolla, the bolt is in pretty good shape. I crawled under the toyota to look and all the bolts are highly corroded/rusted.

It's just an extra bolt, when you work on your car you once in awhile come across one.. jk, I would start by taking off the undertray and go from there check your linkage, and suspension area first but to be totally honest I dont think it belongs on the Z. I've had my fair share of disassembly and I dont recall a bolt with that kind of style to it.

Ok, since many don't recognize the bolt, I was thinking where could it come from. I did help a buddy put in a hitch on his Toyota Tundra several months ago, maybe the bolt came from it.
The car hasn't been moved in several months, so it could have rolled under there and I just realized it.
I will investigate this option.
Thank You to all for helping. I was convinced it was from the Z since it was under it, but started to think of other possibilities from your comments.

I would still get your Z on jacks and do an inspection on the suspension and brake assemblies. Looks like a bolt that is removed often just by looking at the wear on it.
