They probably were just going to run seafoam to your booster hose. I've done that on a lot of older used cars that I've purchased. If black smoke comes out of the exhaust then there is a lot of carbon build(kia spectra had the blackest smoke on a car that I ever did) Last few cars I did the smoke came out white-ish
