Default New thermostat stuck closed..

Just one week ago, my car over heated enough to start spewing coolant out of the reservoir.. I threw in some Oreilly coolant and distilled water to get the car home, but later discovered their coolant contains silicate (not good for our cars) ... So my thermostat, after 90k miles, wasn't opening. the lower rad hose was slightly "chilly" while the top hose was hot under normal operating temps. I replaced it with a $20 Murray thermostat which had some good reviews, but someone here on the forums said theirs quit after just a week. I figured they just got a bad thermostat out of the batch.. I couldn't wait to order a stat online so I installed a Murray stat anyway and flushed the coolant system. Well, a week later and my car is over heating again.. I thought it was just bubbles in the system, but when I grabbed the lower rad hose, it wasn't as squishy at the top hose and it was cold again..

Long story short - Is there any OEM equivalent thermostat worth considering, or should I just grab another OEM piece since the first one lasted me 90k miles? The nearest dealer is about 1.5 hours away.. I wouldn't mind going with a cooler thermostat like the Mishimoto but I really don't see the point since I don't really do any hard driving and we get some cold cold winters..

Sure doesn't :/ Is it worth the Nismo thermostat for a grocery getter? I've also read that a high pressure radiator cap helps increase the boiling point. The 90k premium service in my owners manual says I need a new cap anyway.
