How much foam, and how far down is anyone pushing it down between the windshield and the dash?

I have the same problem and yes, I do not recall this happening during summer time. My fix - blast the volume up.

I had the same problem with mine; brought it in twice to get it fixed - dealer 'says' they fixed, but the noise was still there...
ended up bringing it another dealer who was highly recommended, and they got it right the first time; they ended up replacing the center dash panel where the nav screen/ 3 gauges/radio goes... that entire panel was replaced, and silence never sounded better....

this dealership is great! it also helps that my service rep has a 350, and another rep who works there also has one w/ Stillen SC... at least we all care for our Z's and I was glad they did what it took to get it right...

just my .02...

Just curious. What did they say was the problem? What did it say on the dealer print out?

it says they 'replaced broken clip' which is BS cause the actual console has the clips built-in to it.... the first time, i noticed they covered the existing clips with some weired felt-like tape, but that didn't do anything....

ultimately, the replacement of the console did the trick...

Interesting.....

I took the car for tranny replace and rattle on dash, well they pin point the rattle to the air flow vents on dash, he (service manager) told me they removed the dash and pad it again. well work for one day, in my 3rd day (morning) cold weather plus rough road rattle came back in same location, really i don't know what else to do.....guess pump the volume up and wait for warm weather.....

the orginial noise I had was from my feathered vibrating tires. I just replaced my tires and the noise is gone. But now, I get a loud noise/rattle when i drive on a rough road...ahhhh!

Also, anyone notice any noise to their instrument panel. I have a mumbled rattle, and when I hold down the instrument panel, it stops?????

I've got two noises....rattle / squeaking and buzzing. I just found the source of my rattle / squeaking this morning. Its coming from the A pillar plastic covers. Nissan sells a "noise and rattle" kit that comes with numerous pieces of felt, foam, tape, silicone spray, etc. The A pillar should be easy to fix.

The buzzing is what drives me crazy. And yes, mine seems like it comes from the vents. I haven't, and may not, be able to find the time until summer to take off some of the panels and have a friend drive with me to find it.

I'm offering a reward to anyone who can provide the information leading directly to the fix of the buzzing!

What/where is the A pillar?

The A pillar is the structural member between the windshield and the front of the side doors. The plastic cover is what's creaking.

Also, the B pillar is the structural member behind the side doors to the glass (or rear doors).

And so on...

I get the vibrating rattle also. Just by chance, I reached up to adjust mirror and the vibrating stopped. Now when I hear this noise which sounds as if it's coming from behind the nav box, I give the mirror a squeeze and it goes away.

It's really starting to **** me off. Every day it's a new rattle. I can't find and fix the old ones before new ones start. I have one at the very base of the A pillar.
I removed the pillar and the vents, dynamated the pillar and drove with the pieces off and it seemd to be coming from a little clip that clips the dash to the firewall. The rattle goes away if I pull up or press down on dash. unfortunately, felt didn't work and you can't get to the clip w/o removing the whole dash.
Now today I have a new sqeak from my left rear hatch area also!!
I love the car, but she's driving me crazy!

ya baby, I found the noises!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MikeW, I found the buzzing noise in the dash just like you. Reached up, grabbed the mirror, and the smile from my face drew out sunshine for the entire state of Michigan! The buzzing was reflecting off the windshield and seemed like it was coming from inside the dash.

The creaking is coming from the A-pillar cover. When I merely touch the cover, the sound goes away.

I assume the a-pillar will be an easy fix. The mirror however, I think may need to be replaced. I have to hold the mirror really tight in order to get the buzzing to go away.

Anyone know of a good Nissan service department, and who you can trust from there???

Thanks.

Grant

No doubt. I could just take the car to the dealer...if I only trusted them.

Haven't even found time for it yet. And I won't this weekend either. I'm positive the buzzing is from the rearview mirror.

Somehow just knowing where the noise is coming from makes me feel a little better. Its fixable...at least it's not buried inside the dash.

I'll give an update ASAP, probably middle of next week.

I also had the problem with the A-pillar and right rear dash they deal did put some of that double sided spongy stuff and the problem went away, but not after a couple of times me coming back and begging them to do it again. Don't try leaving your car and just telling them, wait and go take a drive around and duplicate it your self or they wil say "problem cannot be duplicated" Also there is a sheet avisor have of a diagram of the interior front dash of the Z they have to fillout and descibe the noise and locate if it happens when its cold, etc.etc. and also you put an X or circle the area where the noise rattle coming from ask for it and if they don't have it tell them it's out there an to get it. My advisor was pissed when i made him bust it out. Also a waring of doing more harm than good not to be a dick but tell the advisor and tech to be careful with her. An optional resource is to go to Home Depot and do it your self with the camper shell sealer (spongy double sided stuff) I cannot believe that they sell that rattle kit WTF is should be free. And for those people with that rear strut tower ticking metallic morse code sound I also have that problem and it's like the japenese water tortue. Parts where ordered and started school so I slowed my tripps to deal down and parts sent back but a tech from nissan NNA wrote a note or summary whatever and is sending it to NNA ENG. and supposed to get back at me. Good Luck
