Default Ghost in the Machine (2006 350Z)

Just recently, when I turn of my Z, the entertainment console and navigation display stays on! With the key removed!! Not exactly sure how that works, but it has drained the battery twice.

Has anyone out there had a similar experience where after turning off the car and removing the keys from the ignition, the CD/Radio console and navigation display stays on?

I called the local Nissan dealer, got a hold of the service guy that has worked on my car in the past, and he said, not possible. Wasn't really helpful.

Ideas?

Busted ignition switch?

Did you recently get a new radio or tinker around inside the console?

No, sir, no changes. To make matters even more mysterious, I disconnected the negative battery cable and let it sit for a few hours and the problem went away. For at 6 or 7 starts anyway, now it's back. Going to be a real pain in the rear if I have to disconnect the battery every time I want to leave it sit for a few days and not have the fear of the radio/console coming on and draining the battery.

Is it an aftermarket system? If you Google the question there are a lot of sites with people having the same issue. Reading through some may help you determine the problem.

NO after market parts, kits at all. Looks just like the day it rolled off od the shop floor. I'm the only one who's ever driven this car. 110K miles. I'm stumped.

Sounds like an electrical issue to me. I would run it by the dealer. In the meantime, could you manually turn off the system before you shut the car off? Mine is not stock, so I'm not sure, but it should have a power button somewhere.

Try replacing the fuses for the navigation console / radio.

I had an issue where, on my commute home, the radio decided to cut out and the display would stay on even with the key pulled. Bit of a quiet drive back home wracking my brains how much this electrical gremlin would cost me to have diagnosed and fixed; then when I pulled in, I had a brain wave that maybe a fuse went out. Not sure if it got jostled loose or something but I pulled the radio fuse, reset it, and haven't had any trouble since (other than having to reprogram all my saved stations).

Any way, "cool story bro", try replacing the fuses!
