Nissan told me that I need a front left side wheel hub bearing and quoted me 381 bucks. They also said my rotors were warped, both front and back. I told them I have only had the back rotors for like 15k and the front ones for 35k. They said because they weren't Nissan parts but rather aftermarket parts, that is why they warped easily. Is this true? They also said I could still drive with the loose wheel bearing a while longer until the noise becomes louder. Isn't that dangerous though? And it is pretty loud when I'm doing 70, 80 or more. They said because I just spent over 1k replacing two front tires and repairing both front wheels, that it wasn't that urgent to replace the wheel bearing, but recommend I do soon. As far as the rotors go, they told me to check with the place where I got them put on to see if there is a warranty. Any thoughts or suggestions about all of this?

 

The dealership told you to check with the other shop that did the brake job to determine if there is a parts warranty on the rotors you purchased previously. Check the sales receipt to see if there's any mention. As for the wheel bearing, why not take on this job yourself? It's not a difficult DIY and you'll even find a thread on it here.

 

Well, I checked my records and just one year ago (20k) NISSAN installed rear brake pads and rotors on my car. So if they are saying the rotors are warped, then they should replace them!! I won't hold my breath though.

 

Rotors and pads are wear items, Depending on how much heavy braking you've been doing, it's entirely possible to warp brakes in 20K. That's quite a bit of mileage in a year, so don't be surprised if the dealership denies your claim.

What kind of brakes are on your Z? Standard ones were marginal for high-speed use at the track.

 

The idiots at nissan wrote on the service paper that all my brakes were aftermarket which could explain pulsating. They are the ones who put rear brake pads and rotors on my car a year ago. So their mechanics must be idiots.

 

So Nissan either never bothered to change my pads and rotors a year ago, which would be criminal, or they can't recognize aftermarket brakes from their own. Either way they have some explaining to do.
