Default Trunk won't open properly?

Forgive me because I know posts like these have posted already. But the search function of this website doesn't seem to like me..

Whenever I press the trunk button outside my vehicle it "opens" but when I PHYSICALLY try to open it it kind of gets "stuck" in its own zone.

Then I have to hold up the trunk and use my other hand to press the trunk button and it releases it from lock, even though it should be already.

Hopefully that describes my situation?

Another part of this is that when the trunk lid is all the way up, its fine, but a slight inch down it starts to collapse on its own... Doesn't seem natural. Do I need a new trunk pressure holder (a name I made up, idk what its called).

Thanks-
blanqshot

you need new hatch shocks and these.... these will pop it up some. may also need to adjust the locking mechanism

huh...

I'm assuming you want me to start with those and see if its permanent fix. If not then we are getting into the locking mechanism?

the spring popper things, get those first.. it should fix your problem. after that you will need to replace the" trunk pressure holder" (aka hatch shocks) to keep it from falling on your head

I agree with Travlee’s suggestion to replace:

Spring Lift (Product SKU: 84415-Z33002)

Hatch Lift Support Struts

I’ve owned my 350z for 12 years, and have replaced the Spring Lifts once and the Hatch Lift Support Struts twice. When I replace my Hatch Lift Support Struts, I do so with enhanced models designed to lift a hatch with a spoiler in place. I don’t have a spoiler, but the enhanced lifts are more robust and last longer.

I just pop it, stick my fingers in the crack, pop it again while I pull it up, then stick these on the strut.

No I don't. If I hadn't just put high pressure struts on it I would get you the video. I ordered them and let them sit for a year and a half before I installed them.

I also did the penny mod in the lift springs. If I opened it more frequently it would be fine but I very rarely open it so it sticks to the weatherstrip.

^^ Funny you mention high pressure struts and that they sat awhile before you installed them.

I have a pair of high pressure struts I've had for a significant time (too long) waiting to be installed. After reading your msg. I've decided to get on this.

I have had the same problem since I've replace OEM hatch struts with HP struts from z1 - after pushing the release button the hatch doesn't pop up completely.
I beleive the problem is in spring lifts - gonna order a pair shortly)

Trunk lid on my Z does exactly as yours does, OP, not a big deal, just push the remote button (or the release button on the car) a second time to get the release to work.

Suppose I could fix it but I justify my laziness by considering this an anti-theft device. Someone not familiar with the foils of the Z hatch might give up on trying to open it. Heh heh,

Then again, it could p**s off the miscreant and he busts my backlight to get at, well, NOTHING in the trunk area.

On the hatch struts... mine are so dayam strong that I have to keep my hand on the lid to avoid the hatch shooting up and breaking my teeth.
